The inserted picture shows the fish drying on a fishing vessel in India.

Drying fish onboard is becoming popular in India and could be also practiced elsewhere. The dried fish produced in this way is much cleaner and devoid of unwanted materials compared to land drying. Moreover, this method of drying utilizes effectively the available space on the boat such as above the cabin. This in addition to saving the cost of ice which could be used to keep the freshness of caught fish. Typically, the fishes that are to be dried onboard are arranged in rows and then hung on the deck for drying. In general, because of the mentioned advantages, on-board fish drying has become popular method.

Upon reaching the shore, dried fish is packed and marketed whether in local markets while hygienically and well packed dried fish are in the supermarkets in India as well as exported to other countries.
