Adapting to climate change: the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Near East and North Africa Region

This workshop proceedings is the product of a 3-day workshop which was held at Abbassa (Egypt) in December 2009 with the Near East Member Countries and enriched by reviews as well as contributions by FAO and World Fish experts. The objectives of the workshop included creating awareness among Member Countries and stakeholders of the need for the ecosystem approach to fisheries and aquaculture and of its implementation on the basis of the best available knowledge and information; strengthening of capacity for planning and implementation of the ecosystem approach to fisheries and aquaculture; improving knowledge and awareness of the current and future implications of climate change for fisheries and aquaculture; and providing guidance on best practices for adaptive planning and management, and adaptive strategies in general, for coping with climate change.
