Culture of mud crab, Scylla serrate in Myanmar

Mud crab, Scylla serrate enjoys a high market demand and so high price especially in South Asian Countries. The interest in mud crab aquaculture is based on their rapid growth in captivity. The photos show a demonstrative scheme for the grow-out and seed production of mud crab which has been developed by the Department of Fishery (DOF) in Myanmar. In the present, farmed soft shell and fattened mud crab is exported to Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Mud crabs are often bought alive in the market.
