The photos on cage farming are taken in Fumas reservoir, Boa Esperan\u00e7a, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The altitude of this site is 775 meters whereas the temperature ranges between 18\u00b0C and 26\u00b0C.<\/span><\/h1>\n

The cages shown in the photos are rectangular with a volume of 18 m3<\/sup> each. Cultured fish species include curimba, curimat\u00e2 (Prochilodus lineatus<\/i>), Traira (Hoplias malabaricus<\/i>), Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus<\/i>), Pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus<\/i>), piracanjuba (Brycon orbign<\/i>yanus), and dourado (Salminus brasiliensis<\/i>). Fish are stocked during December at an average density of about 20 fingerlings\/m3<\/sup> whereas the growing season lasts till March of the following year ending by harvesting of about 10 kg\/m3<\/sup>.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Away from cage aquaculture, the sport and subsistence fishing are practiced in the Furnas Reservoir.<\/span><\/h1>\n
