The cage culture of seabass (Lates calcarifer) is popular in the southern and eastern coastal waters of Thailand. Cages shown in the inserted picture are located in Phang-nga Province, southern of Thailand.<\/p>\n

Cages are usually square with a depth of about 2 meters and coordinates which could range from 4-10 meters. Because of the simplicity and profitability of this farming method, the cage culture of seabass has expanded rapidly in Thailand.<\/p>\n

The seabass fingerlings are stocked at approximately 25\/m2<\/sup>. The harvestable size is about 500 g and so, the production of about 20-22 kg\/m2<\/sup>\/year is considered a reasonable estimate.<\/p>\n

The insufficient supply of supply of trash fish which used in feeding caged seabass is considered a major constraint to the operation and sustainability of this activity.<\/p>\n
