The inserted\u00a0picture shows persons carrying live fingerlings in plastic bags. The oxygen added would ensure a safe arrival of transported fish until reaching the fish ponds. The persons belong to the communities that received free fingerlings for their communal fish ponds and they were rushing to the ponds which were nearby for stocking. It may worth mentioning that a major aquaculture development in Malawi has taken place with the assistance of National, Regional and International cooperation partners. The activities, among others, include pond construction and distribution of fingerlings to local communities. The species currently being farmed in Malawi are Tilapia rendalli<\/em> (chilunguni\/ nungutchale), Oreochromis shiranus<\/em> (makumba\/ nkhututu), Oreochromis karongae<\/em> (chambo) and African catfish, Clarias gariepinus<\/em> (mlamba).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
