Historically, the culture of rainbow\ntrout (Oncorhynchus mykiss<\/em>)\nin Pakistan; in particular in Gilgit Baltistan dates back to 1906-1908 starting\nwith aged ova that were carried to Gilgit by Potters and then hatched under the\nsupervision of experts of that time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent time,\nthe initial governmental interest has been placed on the production of trout juveniles\nfor stock enhancement into natural waters targeting to enhance the sport\nfishing as required by tourism sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are\ncurrently several rainbow trout hatcheries and farms in the Northern regions of\nPakistan including Gilgit\nBaltistan region. \n\nBased on FAO overview, the touristic sector is\nthe target market of farmed trout during summer as tourists are attracted to the\nareas with cold weather throughout the summer. During winter, trout is still\nsold and consumed by local people who increase their fish consumption during\ncold.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
