The disease was first\nreported in China in 1992 and by 2000, the disease spread to most of the major\nshrimp-farming countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the low heritability\nof WSSV resistance as well as the negative correlations found between WSSV\nresistance and growth rate as well as the resistance and reproductive ability,\nthe selection program and selection pressure have been determined and applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Colombian\nbreeding program has produced shrimp populations that are much more resistant\nto WSSV than unselected populations.\n\nAccording to published research, improving the\nsurvival rates and enhancing the reproductive capacity of the WSSV-resistant\npopulations appears to be important research points for future research.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo credit: Andres Delgado (Colombia) Review: Abdel Rahman El Gamal (Founder of the website) The facility shown in the inserted picture belongs to the Corporaci\u00f3n Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n de la Acuacultura de Colombia (Colombian Aquaculture Research Center, CENIACUA) located in Punta Canoa, Bol\u00edvar Department, Colombia.
