\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI delivered this lecture in a regional short-term training\ncourses held in Egypt during March 2020 and organized by the Egyptian\nInternational Centre for Agriculture (EICA) and titled \u201cSmall-scale\naquaculture\u201d. The course hosted 25 participants from 21 African countries.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture starts with an overview on the features of rural\ncommunities focusing whenever applicable on fish consumption. The items needed\nfor the promotion has been addressed including appropriate technologies,\nselected species, labor, credit when required and others. The introductory part\nhas been followed by examples of small-scale projects especially those\nintegrated with other agricultural crops or livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adoption curve in rural community has been addressed.\nMoreover, a proposed criterion of small-scale aquaculture has been discussed.\n\nThe lecture addressed the promotion strategy and the importance of\ninitial success as well as the sustainability beyond the promotion program. The\nSpecial issues have been emphasized in the lecture including extension service,\nproject planning, environmental concerns, subsidies and others.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
