Myanmar has coastal line of 2823 km and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) has 486,000 sq km. The continental shelves cover almost 228000 sq miles with abundant resources. Marine fisheries are distinguished into two types. These are Inshore and Offshore fisheries. Inshore fisheries\u00a0 – Shore line to 5 nautical miles in northern areas\u00a0\u00a0 and 10 nautical\u00a0\u00a0 miles in the southern area Department of Fishery “DOF” allowed to fishing vessels \u00a0less than 30 feet\u2019s (12 HP) Offshore fisheries\u00a0 – Outer limit of Inshore fishing zone to EEZ, DOF \u00a0allowed to \u00a0fishing vessels more than 30 feet\u2019s (above\u00a012 HP).<\/span><\/p>\n
