The video shows some of pond management of \u201cMeagre\u201d (Argyrosomus regius<\/em>), in Egypt especially feeding and harvesting. There is a growing interest in the commercial farming of meagre especially in the Dibah Triangle Zone in Egypt. This area is located between Damietta and Port Said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The growing interest in meagre farming matches the high demand on this species whether for local market or for export. The species characteristics especially its meat quality (tasty flesh with no bones), and high growth rate support the interest in farming meagre. Moreover, the possibility of farming meagre in wide range of salinity is considered an important factor to be considered.<\/span><\/p>\n

The farming of meagre depends on collected fry\/juveniles from the natural fishery resources along the Nile delta by the Mediterranean coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

The video presented the feeding process in a meagre fish pond. In the present, trash fish and small shrimp are the principal feed in meagre fish ponds. When meagre fingerlings are stocked at a rate of 1 to 2 fingerlings\/m3<\/sup>, the production of about 5-7 tons could be produced of meagre with about 1.25 \u2013 2.0 kg as an average size during a 16-month growing season.<\/span><\/p>\n
