This lecture has been delivered by Dr. Abdel Rahman El Gamal during July 2016 as a contribution to the “Fish Culture Development training course – Africa” which is annually organized by the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA) with the support by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The lecture focused more on the management issue rather than specific technologies for particular species. The introductory part of the lecture highlighted the significant diversity of aquatic organisms related to reproduction whereas this introduction served the subsequent components of the lecture.
The necessity and roles of hatcheries in the development of aquaculture has been addressed whether for fin fish or shellfish. The broodstock management, standards of key parameters, and spawning induction have been covered in the lecture that ended by the enhancement of hatchery’s efficiency.
