These photos belong to a sturgeon farm that is exclusively dedicated to meat production of sturgeon in Uruguay. The farm is located in Rio Nigro in Departamento de Tacuarembó province. Farm facility includes indoor and outdoor facilities.

So far the complete reproduction cycle of sturgeon in Uruguay is at the research scale.  However, there is a new project which targets to produced sturgeon seeds and sell it to other farmers. This initiative which is under evaluation by authorities at the moment if approved would eliminate the annual imports of fertilized eggs by individual farms.

Fish used for meat production in this facility are hybrids within the genus Acipenser. The farm has its own slaughtering facility. Similarly, feed used in the farm is manufactured by the farm itself.

Note: We decided not to watermark the photos in order not to upset its clarity. However, we trust you will notify us if you wish to use a picture or more. This is expected and will be appreciated.
