This video shows how female African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is identified based on the reddish coloration of the genital papilla. The video also shows the examination of the sexual maturation and spawning readiness of African catfish which is usually done through the release of eggs under slight pressure on female’s abdomen. However, it needs to be noted that this particular video was taken during the month of November which is considered outside the natural spawning season of African catfish in Egypt.
