Cage culture in Phewa lake was started in 1972 with the technical assistance from Japanese Volunteers to protect the common carp broods when water level in the fish ponds in the Fisheries Research Center dropped. In the present, fish species cultured in these cages are grass, silver and bighead carps. Cage management includes the continuous removal of fouling, application of grasses to feed grass carp and maintenance of cage netting. Cage productivity is about 7 kg/m3 of cage water. No artificial feed is provided.

Seaweed is used to produce agar agar. The fisherman dries this seaweed in the sun and afterwards sells it in dry form. This region is a major location for seaweed collection and processing.

Inshore Fishery in Myanmar is carried out in the area five – ten nautical miles away from shore depending on the fishing zones. Fishing is done by gill nets, drift nets, long line, and traps using fishing boats according to a licenses given by the Department of Fishery. Fishing boats are not motorized and its overall length should be less than 30 feet. If motorized boats are licensed, engines should be less than 12 horse power.

Rice-fish culture contributes significantly to fish production in Nepal and provides fish especially to rural communitities. In Nepal Indigenous fish species such as snake head, Puntius sp, Heteropneustes fossilis are found in significant quantities in flooded rice fields. There is a governmental program managed by Fisheries Development Directorate which supports rice-fish integrated system that provides technical as well as financial support i.e. Fish fingerlings, some fund for construction of trench. The photo shows a Nepalese boy while trying to capture fish from a rice field.

The photo shows swampy land which is managed and used for aquaculture in the central region of Nepal. In background fishermen are harvesting the fish. The management of this practice is done as licensed under community control and ownership. Community stocks and harvests the fish and hence others are not allowed to fish in this area (Gholes). Stocked fish species common carp, silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp, Rohu (Labeo rohita), Bhakur (Catla catla) and Naini (Cirrhinus mrigala). No external feeds are provided in this system.
