Highlighting Kafr El Sheikh fishery is attributed to its contribution to Egyptian fishery. This flyer starts with some historic information on the governorate then after focusing on fishery resources in Kafr El Sheikh including capture fishery with more focus on Lake Burullus. The development of aquaculture in Kafr El Sheikh has been addressed in bullets before tabulating the production in tons and percentages to national production. The document is supported by few tables and photos.

There are 29 fish processing units in Pakistan with storage capacity of 10,000 tons, out of these 25 units are located in Karachi of Federal Government provided intelligentsia and technical assistance to seafood establishments for improving their processing conditions in line with various EU / international standards. Through this process, eight establishments have already improved their conditions and were approved to export seafood to European Union countries. In addition, another five plants have almost upgraded their conditions and others are also undertaking changes in their facilities to comply with EU / international standards.

The inserted photo shows a woman during the sun-drying of shrimp as a means of preservation and marketing. This practice occurs in the Casamance region of southern Senegal. The sun-drying of shrimp is done after being boiled and salted. After drying, the product will be packaged and ready for sale.

The masculinization of the fry of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) –as shown in the photo- is done in 5m2-hapas placed in earthen ponds. In order to judge the age of fry, only fry hatched from collected eggs are used in the sex-reversal process in which the male hormone 17 alpha methyltestosterone is used. In the particular facility, the dose of used hormone is based on the quantity of hormone used to the number of treated fry; (5g hormone for 500,000 fry). The duration of treatment is 21 days. Each hapa is stocked with 30,000 fry. The hapa cover protects tilapia fry against possible bird predation.
The facility may nurse tilapia fry up to 5-g fingerlings whether to be stocked in the grow-out ponds of the facility as well as for farmers who demand bigger size fry. It may worth mentioning that almost all fish farmers culture all-male; sex-reversed tilapia fry.

This video was filmed in a marine hatchery in Vietnam
The video shows egg catheterization in Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer). Note that sampled fish has been slightly anesthetized in the shown ice box using ice. Determining the size (diameter) of eggs from female’s ovary by catheterization (biopsy) is being used as a criteria to determine the sexual maturation of females. Catheters could be rigid (made of glass or hard plastic) or flexible (made of polyethylene or vinyl). The leading edge of the catheter should be smooth or rounded to prevent any damage to sampled fish. Moreover, catheters should be of adequate size to match fish size and the genital opening (urogenital pore). Egg sampling this way should be done quickly and with minimum force to minimize physical injury to sampled fish. Improper catheterization may lead to the damage of sphincter muscles. If sphincter muscles got damaged, eggs at the posterior end of the ovary will water-hardened, and the plug is formed. Also, hemorrhage which could result of applying excessive force during introducing the catheter could lead to clotting and blocking of egg flow during ovulation.

The freshwater catfish, (Pangasius Sutchi) which is locally known in Malaysia as “Patin” is among the popular freshwater fish in Malaysia. The species is also among the main species reared in cages along Pahang River.
The photos show a cage farm for the Pangasius Sutchi. Typically a cage farm consists of 8-12 cages. The cage dimension is 3×4 meters by 1.5 meter depth.
The grow-out lasts about 7 months during which fry grows from a 4-inch size to the harvest size that ranges from about 800 g – 1 kg with an average weight of about 900 g and cage productivity of around 600 kg/cage which are sold in local market. Caged fish are fed on pelleted feed.

Se debe tener en cuenta si la cal a utilizar es cal “Viva” o “Agrícola”, en el primero de los casos se debe aplicar entre 50 y 80 gr/m2 y en el segundo, 100gr/m2.

The Ban Tha Heua is a small village which is located about 25 km south of Vang Vieng. The village is known by its fish market in which variety of fish species and types (fresh and dried) are either displayed in clusters or along the road. Most of traded fish in the market are indigenous to Laos and caught from Ang Nam Ngum reservoir. Several of exotic fish species are caught and traded in the market as the inserted photo shows which are the common exotic species that are marketed in the market including silver carp and common carp.

The insert here shows the frames of two cages. In fact these are only two samples of fourteen cages, belonging to a community group in the Asuogyaman District of Ghana.
It was constructed for them for a pilot aquaculture project by an NGO. The size of the cage is 2.2m×2.2m×2m, and occupies a volume of 136m3 on the Lake Volta.
Although it was an NGO pilot project for this community, the cage frames were not very strong; floats were made of about 4inches PVC pipe; which made them weak on the lake. After the pilot project, the cages had since been given to the beneficiaries to use to improve their living conditions.

This lecture was delivered during November, 2014 in Fish Culture Development training course. This course is annually organized by the “Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture – EICA”. This lecture focuses on small-scale aquaculture in rural development. The handling highlights the features of rural societies especially in regard to aquaculture and criteria of appropriate fish species and systems. The models of small-scale fish farms include rice-fish farm, integrated farms and cages. The promotion of aquaculture projects required to provide examples of criteria of small-scale systems. It was necessary to address rate of adoption and simplicity concept. the access for credit, The subsidy issue has been covered in more details. The lecture has been supported by photos for various practices as well as case studies.
